Maps and routes
As part of the Freedom of Your City Campaign, we’re adding new cycle lanes, cycle-friendly junctions and traffic-free routes to the streets of Exeter.
On the street
To help you find the best way around your city on two wheels Cycle Exeter is launching a new online journey planner
By simply adding your journey start and finish points on the webpage a handy suggested cycle route will be displayed.
We are still testing this exciting new journey planner so please have a go and give us feedback by e-mailing cycleexeter@devon.gov.uk on the routes it suggests.
We can then tinker with the programme to ensure that we always suggest the best route
So have a go and tell us what you think – Cycle Exeter online journey planner
As well as the new online journey planner, you can still download the popular Exeter Cycle Map
(4.87 MB - pdf help) which is updated regularly to show the new cycle routes in the city.
The network of cycle routes is growing all the time, so to keep up with what’s changing for cyclists in Exeter sign up for email updates.
The Exe Estuary trail
One of our biggest projects is the Exe Estuary trail. Once completed, it will tie together existing cycle and footpaths from railway stations in the city centre, and stretch right the way along the Exe estuary to Dawlish on the west side, and Exmouth on the east. Take a look at the proposed route and improvement works here.
Beyond the city centre
Exeter is really blessed with an amazing range of towpaths, woodland trails and challenging off-road routes all within a reasonably short ride of the city centre. Here’s a selection:
- Cycling in Trails in Devon
(4.22MB – pdf help) – mostly off road family friendly routes
- Sustrans National Cycle Route 2 between Turf Locks and Exeter, and Lympstone and Exmouth
