Schools, Colleges and University Toolkit
Incentives and schemes
There are many ways you can encourage pupils and students to cycle – you can even offer rewards, and they needn’t be costly.
Offer free cycle training
Cycle Exeter is offering free cycle training for all schoolchildren. Our trainers from BikeAbility can visit your school to help riders of all abilities, even teaching a child how to ride a bike for the first time. Cycle Exeter is also offering free cycle training for everyone in Exeter, whatever your ability. Just download a booking form and you can arrange a one-on-one or group session.
Biker’s breakfast
Offer a free healthy breakfast (or even just a piece of fruit) to everyone who cycles in – Cycle Exeter can provide matched funding to cover the costs.
Run a Dr Bike Clinic
Cycle Exeter can arrange for a bike mechanic from a local bike shop to perform free check-ups on bikes at your campus.
Help pupils make the move to secondary school
The move up to secondary school is a key time to develop green travel habits. We can provide free “Moving on up!” lessons for Year 6 pupils in May & June to help keep them think when they move to a new school & teach them how use the cycle map.
Bike maintenance
Keep a bicycle repair toolkit and an extra pump available so cyclists can make any unscheduled repairs at work before heading home.
Cycling facilities
Make cycling the most convenient way to travel to school, college or University by improving bike parking and installing lockers and showers.
